Alcohol & Accutane?

Question:

I am considering going on a course of Accutane and am a social drinker (NOT an alcoholic) – do you have to stop drinking altogether? I have heard that because Accutane can weaken the liver, drinking can be extremely dangerous. Is this true? Also If I don’t decide to go on Accutane just yet, I may try one last course of Oxytetracycline. Does anyone know if there is a difference between Oxtetracycline and Tetracycline? Any answers would be appreciated.

Response:

The best antibiotic SPECIFICALLY for acne is called "MONODOX", itis a tetracycline deriviative and is made by Oclassen; however, it did not work that great for me; unfortunately there is no substitute for Accutane. P.S. Drinking Alchohol makes me break out, although they say drinking does not!                         I welcome all comments!                         Sincerely,

I was a student at university whilst taking accutane. i certainly drank a LOt of beer. i did not get any abnormal effects appart from blurred vision, a tendancy to shout, and periods of leching at all the girls, followed bya headache the next day. all usuall then!! i did find though that apart from the dry cracked lips and occasional nose bleeds that i had a pretty short temper and mood swings. but i had my finakls at the same time and was under some stress. i have been essentially clear since then  (3 years plus) after about 10 years of wicked acne. go for it i say. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -I am considering going on a course of Accutane and am a social drinker..

Response:

I am a social drinker too, but I had to stop while I was on accutane because I got really bad headaches after drinking. The first time happened I thought it was just becuase I was tired or something, but after a few more times, I realized that it was the alcohol and the accutane that was giving me the headaches. That and the fact that my derm told me it would happen…..  :) I would just avoid it…a few months of not drinking isn’t going to kill your social life..  :)  good luck!
