Does climate effect body weight?
Question:
It sounds contratdictory but after doing a google search on the subject I see that there is evidence especially in overweight females.
That’s because we overweight females like to save *everything*. Myra
Response:
It’s a common occurence in humid weather anyway. I’ve never been overweight and have had the problem all my life…same thing with my mom and she’s never been overweight. Some people are more prone to water retention than others. It’s not that I don’t drink enough water…I drink way more than I need to. It just affects some and not others. We’re not heavy sodium users either. I know others who have the problem–some of it manifests more often cyclically as well. Michelle

Yes, the same thing happened to my fingers each day I walked 3 miles in FLA. My hands really swelled up. When I returned to NY and walked 3 miles, my hands were fine! Go figure! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi, I see it happen all the time to me here in Dallas. We might have nice and dry weather and the next day it’s humid. I can see my scale go up three pounds by morning following one of those situations. I just watched it happen when our humid air returned the other day. In fact, when I go running outside when it’s humid, my fingers bloat up like little sausages. And I drink more than a normal persons water in a day just hoping to keep it moving. It takes a lot of work on my part to keep it down. Michelle Hi! Recently returned from vacationing in sunny Florida, and DID NOT cheat! Both my husband I noticed that we gained weight (3-5 pounds) and lost it when we returned to NY. People have told us that body weight will vary in warm and humid climates. Is this true, because I was going nuts in Florida each time I weighed myself. (Yes I did use different scales at the same time, and we weighed ourselves the morning we left and the day we returned, and the scales matched. After 1 week we resumed the weight we left with! Weird! Please ditto your response to my EMAIL address at: Remeber to remove NOSPAM from the address. Thanks!

Here’s the deal: Left for FL and weighed myself that morning. In FLA used my scale and my neighbors (in my house) and it whowed that we gained weight. Came home to NY and FLA weight was still showing on scale. After a few days, our wight returned to what is was when we left. We didn’t change our diet in FL or NY, so I strongly suggest that climate can effect weight. I have no idea but 1) you were using a different scale from your normal home scale? 2) You were at a different elevation? I do know those things will effect scale weight.

It has to be hot and humid for me to have a problem but as soon as the humidity hits in the summer, my shoes and rings are tight. Kitty.

Water levels in the body are different at different climates. Humidity changes affects evaporation. You don’t pee out everything you drink. A lot of it goes out your nose. People tend to have a longer day when they are vacationing. Less sleep for some causes weight gain or lack of loss. That’s all I can add. The scale in general is terrible inaccurate. Long term trends is all you can really go by.
