Update on wombn
Question:
My former neighbor had her first baby at age 36 (and her second at 40), but I remember she said she felt quite insulted when she saw that it said on her hospital chart the first time around "elderly primapara".

lol. I refused to let my mother in. That would have been too embarassing. My sister stepped in and coached me. Delivering my baby was the most out of control time in my life. Hopefully if you do have natural childbirth, you have a better coach than mine was. He didn’t show up!!! yowza! He’d be in BIG trouble. I’m not worried about the coaching thing. Even if hubby wimps out, his mother (a planned parenthood nurse) would most likely be thrilled to step in. *My* mother has already said she doesn’t wanna be in the delivery room at *all*. They did that to me, too. I had my first at 31, my second (and last, unless the tubal fails) at 32. It was quite a shock to see ‘elderly’ stamped all over my charts – and they did it both times since apparently you’re a ‘primipara’ until you’ve actually delivered #2! Hi! I wasn’t here in March, but I wanted to say Welcome back and good luck with your goals! It sounds like you have had quite a stressful few months. You deserve to be happy and healthy! No one should have to choose between those two things.
I hope you are feeling fantastic soon. I hope you have a healthy pregnancy too! My husband says I have "Baby Radar" … if there is one within 50 yards (give or take) I can sense it! Hee hee… so I understand how you feel about wanting one.
Good luck and nice to meet you! S.L. MacDonald

… I went back to a "normal" diet for 5 months. Anywhere from 100-250 gm carbs a day. What.a.mess. HbA1c rose, cholesterol rose (doc wouldn’t do the full lipid profile, only the total), blood pressure rose, bowel irregularity (and thus hemorrhoids) & miserable stomach gas returned, skin dried out, hair dried out, bad PMS and menstrual cramps returned, acne returned, muscle tone lost, energy lost, and took a whole month (!) for one of the mosquito bites on my foot to heal.

Good to hear from you again. — The ORIGINAL Serena 320/188/180(first goal) Well, I guess since there are people who remember me, I suppose I should post an update. I’ll try to keep it short! Back in March, as many of you know, I was re-diagnosed as Type 1 diabetic and was put on insulin. I had been lo-carbing for 5 months (since shortly after original diagnosis as Type 2), very severely. And –combined with intensive weight-lifting– managed to get myself off all meds. And also saw a 11-12% improvement in all my lipid profile measurements and a dramatic reduction in my HbA1c (the true test of blood sugar control), down to well within the non-diabetic range. When I was put on insulin, I knew I’d have to increase carbs in order to learn how to inject for them on those bigger carb days. So I did. I went back to a "normal" diet for 5 months. How much of that was caused by the fact that my blood sugars were swinging UP and down and UP and down, and how much to do with carbs themselves, I don’t know. The only good things out of the higher carb diet was a gain of 3 lbs during the week I spent with my in-laws (~80% carb diet for about 4-6 days–I don’t recall what the airlines fed us, probably high carb too) and a general idea of how many units per how many carbs. So. Once I got those lab tests done and saw an increase in cholesterol and BP, I decided come back to lo carb (<100 gm carbs as a general rule but < 60 gm carbs on most days, special occasion splurges without limits permitted). I’m already seeing major improvements in the things I can observe myself. Just wish something (other than more drugs) could solve my sleep troubles. For the future, I’m seeing a high-risk ob/gyn doc tomorrow to talk about preparing for pregnancy and find out what a high-risk pregnancy would require (my endo told me awhile back that she wanted me treated as a high-risk because I’m type 1 AND ancient). I’m 38 and time’s runnin’ out. Gotta get this bus movin’! (except that the process of delivery terrifies the s*** outta me). I probably won’t tell her *quite* how low my carbs have been. I’m tired of fighting with people about it. Seeing my darling 1 yr old nephew-in-law for 4 days didn’t quiet the baby clock at all.

Hi Wombh, I’d been wondering how you were doing. Glad to hear that things are OK, and that you’ve gotten past the high carb place. And good luck with your new mission. If anyone can pull it off, you can. And I wouldn’t fret about the delivery thing. There are so many scare stories out there, but it’s over fast and so long as you have decent medical care, the experience isn’t all that bad for most women (done it 3 times). And definitely worth it. Being in the best physical shape really helps, too. Linnen
